10 Best Bond Movies

  Curated by Amanda Ohlke

On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Don鈥檛 believe the bad press. This one is perfect for a holiday viewing party. Blofeld鈥檚 plot is unfolding at Christmas time in the Alps where his globally sourced 鈥渁ngels鈥 are being prepared to wreak havoc. Wintery vibes include an icy car chase through a precious Alpine village and a playful St. Bernard in the snow.

Diamonds Are Forever

Come for Bond, stay for the villains 鈥 Blofeld, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd and the energetic Bambi and Thumper. Tiffany Case鈥檚 wardrobe is an early 70s fever dream, and you can watch Bond knock Blofeld around in a mini sub like a kid with a tinker toy.

Live and Let Die聽

From racing speedboats to a tarot card reading enchantress, this sultry 1973 film is set in Harlem, New Orleans, and a fictional Caribbean island. Bond tangles with local police down South, races across alligator backs, and outwits Baron Samedi, death himself.

Casino Royale

Beautiful, heartbreaking, pulse-pounding. Five stars on Daniel Craig鈥檚 first outing. From the epic parkour chase to the Texas hold鈥檈m Tournament in Montenegro this film hits the high notes of the franchise without a corny joke in sight.

Moonraker

Hugo Drax is an over-the-top villain with some of the best lines ever. Jaws returns and gets a love interest. The minions鈥 jumpsuits are pretty fabulous. It鈥檚 campy 1970s at its best and Bond gets to hang glide out of a boat. Essential viewing.

For Your Eyes Only

More serious fare than most of Roger Moore鈥檚 Bond outings, in this one he鈥檚 matched with the daughter of a marine archeologist. Bond鈥檚 background in the Royal Navy comes in handy as they explore the depths in a submarine searching for an Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator. Don鈥檛 worry, there is a ridiculous talking parrot.

Tomorrow Never Dies

Bond puts his brand-new BMW through its paces while he defeats a nasty media mogul who鈥檚 bending world events to meet his needs. Timely enough for you?

The World is Not Enough

A former KGB assassin who has no feelings, the gorgeous billionairess who loves him, and a rather unbelievable nuclear physicist Dr. Christmas Jones. The ski scene is dazzling and, aside from the attack by parahawk, will make you want to hit the slopes.

Die Another Day

Bond is captured in North Korea. He鈥檚 tortured nearly to death. He鈥檚 suspected of being a double agent鈥 and that鈥檚 just the beginning of this intense adventure. Did we mention his invisible car? And the incredible NSA agent Jinx Johnson?

Quantum of Solace

If you watch nothing else, watch the opening car chase. The tight scenes in the tunnel, the harrowing switchbacks on cliffside dirt roads in Italy, the gunfire, will make you feel good about your own commute, whatever it is.
